Американская эмо/панк группа самой что ни на есть первой волны, группа-загадка, о которой известно абсолютно ничего, кроме того что, они выпустили в 1991 году на Vermin Scum records прекрасный сплит с легендарными и особенно мною любимыми Moss Icon. А ведь Silver Bearing совсем незаслуженно остались в тени многих групп той эпохи. Об этом говорит их очень экспериментальный подход к музыке, зарождавшегося тогда эмотив хардкора. Даже не знаю, что еще написать о них. Очень нравятся! Есть подозрение, что музыканты увлекались джазом, о чем говорят их композиции, например Hollerin' Like a Metal God и Jazz One и я абсолютно уверен, что также музыкальное вдохновение парни черпали из ноу вейв сцены. Импровизации, мелодичность, меланхолия, панк рок!

Review

As stated in the title, you will never hear this EP. It's just not possible. Unless you were one of the lucky few hundred that were able to get your hands on the vinyl while you were in Annapolis, Maryland in 1991 or you're one of the few thousand antemoral social deviants that downloaded it digitally off of Pirate Bay (Guilty as Charged), then you've probably never even heard of either of these bands. Which is a god-damn shame, because both of these bands, the enigmatic, innovative, and fiery Moss Icon, and the unheard-0f, art-punks Silver Bearing, are both just terrific bands, it's just awe-inspiring to hear music like this; original, dissonant, emotionally-charged, and almost completely unlistened to besides the few thousand on the entire face of the Earth that has been graced by these bands noise-rock glory.
Here's my review of the 1991 Split EP off of Vermin Scum, "Moss Icon/Silver Bearing"

This is perhaps one of the greatest split EP's I've ever heard, no question. Moss Icon's first four tracks on this are perfect cuts. The chiming, arpeggiated guitars on "Guetamala" roll over in waves, the layers of the cyclical bass, the combatting harmonics, the math-rock licks on the drums, and the half spoken/half screamed atmospheric poetic vocals are so perfectly aligned it makes you wonder why this band wasn't bigger than fucking Sonic Youth. They play so tight, it's orchestrated and composed so well it sounds like this band has been together for centuries, yet they are fresh out of high school when this was released. The typical Moss Icon layering effect from one instrument alone to what sounds like an entire army of pissed off Joy Division cover artists. The tempo breakdowns of "Gravity" seem to be an almost exact copy-paste by other emo/screamo artists to come, just proving Moss Icon's either influence or innovation or both even further. By "Familiar Presides" however, the Moss Icon sound starts to wear thin, and it gets a tad boring, but luckily the Silver Bearing side cuts in, and the fucked up, hardcore sound that you've been waiting for finally comes in on "Arizona". Standard affair emocore kind of sound, pretty good, but nothing special. "The Jazz One" however is a terrific instrumental track that shows Silver Bearing's true strengths as a band. A well-oiled improvisational kind of band, with tempo breakdowns and band cutoffs that are similar to Fugazi guitar work. "Arabic Language" closes it, with atmospheric instrumentalism and clangy guitars that sounds like a focused Godspeed You! Black Emperor piece, only about... 15 minutes shorter. Overall, a great EP, and if you have the means to get a listen to this, I highly suggest doing so. Or, if you know me personally, I can burn you a copy.

действительно, несмотря на сплит с мосс айкон эти парни как-то не произвели должного впечатления на публику тех лет, а ведь новаторскую музыку играли же
и по-моему это одна из первых группа легендарного Майка Кирша (Mike Kirsch) (Sawhorse, Sixteen Bullets, Navio Forge, John Henry West и так далее, много где он успел поиграть и играет до сих пор), он в то время играл в Fuel и sb были его сайд проектом. вроде бы.

Так і було. Пізніше він змінив стать і став Сарою Кірш. Сара, крім музики була відома ще і як політична активістка величезної працездатності. Вона померла 05.12.2012.

А Silver Bearing я вважаю одним із найцікавіших незавершених експериментів у емохардкорі. Шкода, що так мало записали матеріалу у свій час.
