У них есть очень веселая песенка с названием Hardcore Kids Have The Coolest Tattoos - вот бы текст почитать

DETENTION FANZINE

c/o Husni, 502 Block 11, Section 24, 40000 Shah Alam, Selangor- MALAYSIA

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

H-How's life mate? Any nice shit to be told as an intro?

E-Doing alright. Surviving. Apologies for taking so long getting back to you. Things have been chaotic lately.

H-Could you please introduce the current line up of Otophobia and how do you guys come out as a band?

E-The current line up is Mikey- Guitar, Erik- Drums, Dave- Bass, Jack- Vocals. We've had pretty much the same lineup since we start with the ocassional substituting of Andrew on vocals and on the toilet. We got together in Atlanta, Gergia in late '98 and have since moved to Philadelphia, Pennyslvania.

H-The music of Otophobia must be hyper fast, raw and full of anger, crossing through the brutality between thrashy State of fear, Doom, Hiatus and the likes. Do you agree? What really inspire you to come out with such brutal and high tempered noise?

E-Well, obviously we all listen to that kind of music on our own which is how we hooked up in the first place, but I think we're all sort of ill tempered which is why we were attracted to this kind of noise from the start. All the bands you mentioned are bands we listen to, but I think the influences range from that stuff to metal to japanese and swedish hardcore to early american punk rock. We're sort of all over the place on what we actually listen to. Our guitar player is a big NOFX fan, go figure.

H-What does Otophobia means and what is the connection within the band's name and your lyrics/idea? On what topics Otophobia always try to deal with lyrically?

E-Otophobia means "the fear of opening ones eyes". Which ties in with the vast majority of the lyrical content. Basically the songs are about watching the world go to shit and having little control over it. Sometime it amazes me that things are as fucked up as they are. You would think that common sense would prevent us from going as far down the drain as we have. But we don't have any big manifesto or anything as a band, the songs are just observations and general frusteration.

H-Let us know about the complete discographies of Otophobia.

E-s/t 7" on Reactionary Records Source of Confusion 7" on Burrito Records Confined 7" on Sounds of Betrayel/Putrid Filth Conspiracy split w/ Reason of Insanity on Burrito records (early 2002) Full Length CD on Slap-a-Ham Records (March 2002)

H-What do you think of the violent US military assault towards Afghanistan? Don't you think that president Bush is trying to challenge other fascist war machines worldwide to prepare for the third world war, a final grand slam of absolute massacre?

E-This is a difficult question. It's hard to see through to what the real intentions of the United States government really is. I think in this case it is definitely revenge. There is no excuse for any type of war, but our systems of thought and government are so out of control that it's hard to see any clear alternative. I don't think that Bush is trying to egg on any sort of World War 3, I think that he (and Colin Powell/Donald Rumpsfield) are protecting their interests. And their main interest is to remain in power. In order to stay in power and display just how powerful they are, they needed a swift and violent reaction to the World trade center attack. There has been little attention paid to the facts of exactly why Bin Laden and the Al-Queda exist. To the fact that the United States government gave several million dollars to the Taliban in the year 2001. That the CIA openly trained the Afghanistan freedom fighters, where much of these terrorists came from. And possibly most importantly the damage that United States foreign policy has done to that region. One can only hope that people in both the United States and Afghanistan can see through the bullshit and realize that a lot of innocent lives were lost on both sides because of the selfish reasoning of those in power.

H-How did you see racial crimes and threat by the Klu Klux Klan towards the multiracial US and what about their relation with the fascist white cops overthere? Do you know about a Mice Trap label and other white power bonehead labels?

E-I don't personally know much about the current white power scene, I know a little about some of the older white power bands, but frankly most of them are pretty fuckin bad, so I don't pay much attention. While I think it's good that people resist things like that, I don't personally run into it much these days, so admittadly, I spend my energy learning about other things. As far as the general racism in the United States and with the police... I don't personally view the police as flat out racist. At least, not in comparison to the average American. I think the problems with cops really come down to how much power people give them. The more you involve cops, the more they're going to be involved with you. I think through fear people have given the police too much power, and now they're starting to feel the backlash. When I see a cop, I start worrying about getting arrested or hassled, I don't feel safe. That says a lot about how people view them. As a threat, not a protector. As for racism, obviously it's a huge problem. I think it's a very difficult and deeply ingrained problem with a lot of people. It is the kind of thing that is passed down from generation to generation. I don't know how to change that. I wish I did.

H-How was the local punks? How strong is the connection between punks and other revolutionary movement over there?

E-Well, we all moved here from Atlanta where there is a pretty small but closely knit punk scene. Up here in Philadelphia I've found the scene to be very cliquish and divided. There is a huge community of activists and anarchists in a certain area of town how have a stranglehold on the d.i.y. punk scene here. They run it and there's not much room to breathe outside of them. On top of that, they don't advertise d.i.y. shows most of the time, so if you're not social with them, you won't hear about shows. It's pretty fucked up. I'm suprised more bands don't complain about it. It seems to me that punk is starting to get more intelligent and political again. Punk seems to be more natural to get into for a lot of younger people these days and because some bands are very upfront about their politics it makes it very easy for kids to get into politics.

H-What do you think about the "barrier" between the western DIY community and the small "exotic" asia/ far east DIY scene? Are those people in the west get busily working for their next killer limited edition "soon-to-be-rare" 7" vinyl rather than trying to communicate or help the smaller yet unknown scene? Is there exist some sort of classism in the DIY community?

E-Unfortunately there is a barrier between the western and far eastern scenes. I don't think it's classism though. I think it's sadly only a case of access. Here in the United States it's possible for us to save up to get equiptment, put out records, and tour. It's not that simple elsewhere in the world. Also, I think that Americans in particular are very ethnocentric. They're not necessarily open minded about what could be going on in different parts of the world. It's viewed as an entirely different thing, which as you know, it's not. I would encourage any people or bands in your part of the world to try to communicate with people as much as possible. Make pen pals, trade tapes, whatever. If any bands would be interested in trading tapes, feel free to contact us via the P.O. Box adress. Eventually we hope to tour Japan, and possible more around your area in Malaysia and Indonesia as well. We're also looking for someone to put out a discography tape or Cd in the far east so that it is more affordable for people there to gain access to our music. But I must admit, I really don't know much about those areas though, so get in touch!! And yes, the record collecting thing is out of control. I wish labels would get away from that, but whatever, they're the ones putting money into the releases so I suppose they can do whatever the fuck they want.

H-Describe your live shows..Any fucked up situation ever ?

E-I can't think of anything off hand. There's been some dislocated shoulders, permanent scarring, and intrusion by the police, but I can't think of a good story offhand to be honest. The closer we are to the crowd, the better the show. There was one place we played a couple times in North Carolina that was sort of like bunker in the woods with tons of crusty anarcho punks living in the trees and shit. The house is this freezing stone place w/ a huge refridgerator door seperating the different parts of the house. We played in back with me playing drums on this 5x8 inch tiny piece of wood and the other guys perilously close to a huge bonfire that had been built in a small dug out part of the the ground about 4 feet in front of the drums. I think the bass player was off in the woods somewhere. Not only were we getting kind of scorched by fire eaters, but one of the dogs got upset by my thrashing around and bit me while I was playing drums. I got my arm free and kept playing the song, but I think he thought I was trying to hit him so he got upset and attacked me in the middle of a song!!! Mental note, no dogs next time.

H-Who wrote the song "Detention" ?. I want to thank him alot! hahaha. Ok, final conclusion and last words?

E-Jack wrote the actual words. If anyone is interested, please get in touch, send a tape of your band, or make us a mix tape, whatever. We can be reached at my po box. Cheers.

Rotten Fanzine Mexico

>1. How arises otophobia?

Otophobia got together in late 1999. We all had sort of been looking to put together a band like this for awhile and finally got in the same room at that point.

2. How they definirian its musical style?

I dunno, I guess we play hardcore with the occasional blast beat.Crust I guess. I see it as a cross between Swedish hardcore and some of the early '90s American grindcore like Deformed Conscience or Disrupt w/ a little bit of early Japanese and American hardcore thrown in.

3. For the people who have not had the opportunity to listen to them of which their letters speak, that topicos handle?

The lyrics vary, but for the most part I think that with both singers they are centered mostly on general frusteration with daily life. We've never been overtly political lyric wise. Mostly they seem to be just observations of day to day frusteration and bullshit.

4. They consider a politaca band?

No, we don't consider ourselves a political band at all. I follow politics but most of the guys don't and either way it's never been a governing factor in the band. I think also a lot of bands fall into the trap of putting forth this fake front that they are politically informed by writing generic anti-goverment songs and we've never tried to do that. But at the end of the day it's up to the singer who is writing the lyrics and neither Jack or Andrew has any will to make it an overly political band. I'm just the drummer, so what do I know??

5. Some of you is vegano/vegetariano?

All of us are vegetarian except for our bass player.

6. Aside from the band some of you participates in some other activity, cuentenos a little on it?

I'd love to tell you that we do all this important stuff with our spare time, but the band pretty much IS our spare time. Most of us spend the majority of our time working shit jobs and trying to stay out of debt. With what little spare time we have, we play in Otophobia. Unfortunately it can be a little expensive to be in a touring band, so I usually spend half the year paying off the debt that we went into going on tour.

7. That life thinks about America way of?

I'm not sure of the question here....Do you mean what do I think of the "American way of life"?? If that's what you mean, that's difficult to answer. I believe that America on the whole is a fairly ignorant nation. In comparison to much of the world I think we live considerably more comfortably and don't make much of an effort to help countries. A lot of Americans think that allowing President Bush or whatever other yahoo is in power here bomb the shit out of the dictator of the week is somehow helping out people in some remote part of the word. Again, ignorance. America is a fast food culture. Very self centered.

8. Speak a little on their local scene, is to really say the people who this in the movement think that really this it jeopardize?

The local scene here is a little weak right now. There's a lot of rock n' roll bands that have taken over since we moved away. Hopefully now that we're all back living in Atlanta that'll improve though. I don't think that punk rock in general is in any danger, and I don't think that the political wing of punk rock is in any danger either. If anything it seems to be getting larger and more attention is being drawn to it.

9. That they think about the terrorism?

I could write a book about that one. Depends who you ask. Most people seem scared of terrorism these days. The World Trade Center thing really scared the crap out of a lot of Americans. It really put people on the defensive. Put simply I think that act of terrorism was a response to previous American acts of terrorism. But understand, I don't think it was any more acceptable to kill thousands of Americans than I do thousands of Iraqians.

10. With the events of the 11 of September, that think on the campaign that emprendio goboerno of E.U. against the terrorism? 11. That they think about the migration of people towards the E.U. they think that this affects E.U. to him to uses it for its benefit?

To be honest, I have been paying a lot of attention to the news, especially after September 11th and I've never heard of him. Sometimes it's hard to get the full story with the American news services.

12. What opinion have on the patriotism, in fact is love to his pais or a fanaticism?

I think that it's a little of both. There is nothing wrong with being proud of where you are from, just like you are proud of your family or hometown. But there is a certain point at which it is too much. America is a big country, I don't see how supporting Bush's War is patriotism. Bush and his cabinet are really trying to play patriotism up like it's every Americans duty to help bomb Iraq and Afghanistan. Blind patriotism is bullshit. Also, to be honest, I'm not proud to be American, if anything I'm a little ashamed. Our government has done some really evil, horrible things to other countries and they do it while hiding behind the American flag. It's pathetic. And anyone that ignorantly supports those sorts of activities just because we're Americans is a fucking fool.

13. They know something on the Mexican scene, zines, bands?

Not a hell of a lot. I've heard of some Mexican bands- Discordia, Civil Disobendecia (sp?), and recently I saw a band called Bumbklaat or something like that out in San Francisco that was amazing. For whatever reason I rarely hear anything about the Mexican scene. I hear all I can handle about the European and Japanese scenes, but never Mexico even though it's next door. I have no idea why. I'd like to know more about it, in fact we've talked about touring Mexico next time we go to the west coast. Maybe...

14. Future !

Let's see, we are in the process of putting together another lp/cd which will be released by Yellow Dog in Germany and waiting on the Otophobia/Reason of Insanity 7" to finally be released. We'll be in Europe for awhile early next year and then hopefully heading out west again at the end of next summer.

15, Algun contact for the people whom it loves to know but about OTOPHOBIA?

Right now I haven't had a chance to open a new p.o. box, but I can be reached through the email or website and also at this adress. Cheers- Erik
