Чарльз Брэдли. Есть в его смерти для меня такой отличительный личный момент. Не думаю, что до этого какая-либо кончина одного из моих любимых артистов была настолько грустной(?) что ли. Есть в скорби за таким артистом какой-то эгоистический аспект, и ощущение что у тебя лично что-то отобрали. И у меня есть похожее чувство, возможно первый раз в жизни. Чарльз был пожалуй самым urgent чекбоксом из списка людей на концерт которых мне обязательно стоит попасть. И мне пожалуй нет смысла рассказывать насколько история Чарльза повлияла на меня и насколько он заставил меня втянуться в соул музыку как таковую. Мои слова вряд ли будут достойны этого человека.

В соул музыке самая воспевающаяся вещь это сама любовь. И Чарльз был живым гимном безусловной любви и состраданию. Человек пронёс через десятилетия очень тяжёлой судьбы и практически нищенского существования невероятно упорное чувство любви ко всему что его окружает. И благодаря только этому качеству он получил возможность в конце своей жизни поделиться этим чувством со всем миром. Человечество было бы лучшим местом, если бы в мире было больше таких людей.

Спасибо, что случился в наших жизнях.

Black Velvet is a celebration of Charles Bradley, lovingly assembled by his friends and family at Dunham/Daptone Records. Though chronologically the material spans Charles' entire career, this is no anthology, greatest hits or other shallow rehashing of the songs that already made him famous. Charles was truly a transcendent singer who led a remarkable life, overcoming unimaginable adversity to achieve great success and international acclaim very late in his life. What was really special about him and made him different from everybody else in the world was how he understood his pain as a cry for universal love and humanity. He felt that if he loved enough—if we all loved each other enough—we could take away the world’s pain and sadness. That is why he jumped off the stage and literally tried to hug everybody he could. It's why he took such great care of a mother that had abandoned him. It's why he sang and danced like a lunatic. It's why he screamed like an eagle. And that's why we love him.

Black Velvet is a celebration of his life, and is destined to join Charles' first three albums alongside the cannon of essential soul records for the ages.
The new album is comprised of ten tracks the singer laid down in the years before his death, taken from different recording sessions over the years.

Late soul singer recorded song months after being diagnosed with stomach cancer.

The late soul singer Charles Bradley was deep into chemotherapy when he entered a home recording studio in Queens, New York. In the fall of 2016, he’d been diagnosed with stomach cancer, forcing him to cancel a North American tour in support of his third album, Changes. Weak, but resilient, Bradley entered the recording booth and began to record the vocals for a new song, “Lonely As You Are,” on the spot.

The resulting track is a heart-rending ballad that deftly mixes Bradley’s powerhouse vocals with country-tinged soul groove. “No one can chain me, if it call for me to die,” Bradley belts, “I’m so lonely, lonely as hell.” The song closes with Bradley delivering a poignant message to his mother, grandmother and other loved ones, “One day, when God says well done, please be at the gate, waiting for me.”

“Charles knew ‘Lonely as You Are’ could comfort people and help them find a way to deal with their own loneliness,” said Bradley’s former co-manager, Morton Lorge. “He was always looking for ways to make people feel better, even when he was confronting his own pain and suffering. He asked that ‘Lonely’ be played at his funeral; he wanted to share it with the world.”

Bradley recorded “Lonely As You Are” as part of a session with New York-based musician and producer, James Levy. Multi-instrumentalist Paul Defiglia helped complete the track, tapping the Avett Brothers’ Seth Avett and Mike Marsh to provide acoustic guitar and drums, respectively.

“Lonely As You Are” is the first of two songs from Bradley’s sessions with Levy, with the other, “Lucifer,” set to arrive May 31st.

только месяц назад про него узнал. ЧБ влюбляет в себя с первых секунд, он просто охренительный фронтмен, поражает его артистичность и эмоциональность, удивительная органичность на сцене))
