Я сомневалась, где стартовать. В принципе, фолк-рок и джаз-рок представлены как в азере, так и в роке, но судя по последним альбомам, действительно надо было в роке создавать...

Насколько я могу судить, большинство того что на ластфм обзывают "альтернативным кантри", на деле вообще к кантри имеет мало отношения. Сейчас вроде как вполне мейнстримно, Райан Адамс там и все дела вообще этот термин не люблю, единственный раз обозвала им 16HP - и то камнями закидали.

Я не знавець, швидше просто знайомий з такою музикою. прочитав спершу статтю у вікі, вона дуже інформативна, але взагалі ні про що не каже.
Словом, спочатку був root-rock (якщо уявити, що таке традиційна музика Америки, то це воно). Наприкінці 80х років музичний бум торкнувся здавалось би непорушні устої американців, зачепив і власне музику. взагалі, непогана би докторська вийшла, коли б психологи обєднались з музичними критиками, і дослідити, чому одна єпоха надає перевагу одному типу музику, і як це співвідноситься з історією країни. америка викидала назовні сублімовані пристрасті за рахунок панку, тоді хардкору, тоді нойзу. і от нарешті про альткантрі. пристрасть хардкору була взята на озброєння звичайними бідаками у нешвілі, транспонована на традиційну музику. хардкор тоді було модно грати. та нікому не приходило в голову до такої еклектики. просто 80ті90ті роки були котлом, у якому все варилось. отже традиційні кантрі бенди почали грати фолк з жаром хардкору, звертаючи велику увагу на лірику, яка носить переважно похмурий gloomy настрій, і залишається в той же простим щирим і політично активним. першими були Uncle Tupelo у 1990, з них до речі потім Wilco вилупиться. ще Palace Music and Will Oldham - з цих виліз Bonnie prince billy. ще Ass Ponys. Потім до таких американських провінцій дойшли Sonic Youth, і додали новий штрих до шаленого фолку - елемент нойзовості. наприклад Grifters - абсолютно пяна вакханалія, і топтання над могилами предків. можу залити щось

а з цього власне веде свій початок альткантрі в такому вигляді, як воно дойшло до нас, і є зразком канону. акустика замість електогітар, і фактично повернення до емоційності, емфатичності Ніка Кейва і ко.

щодо uncle tupelo повністю згоден. нудно
теми створюються, якщо узагальнити, через бажання самоствердитись (ствердження себе на форумі), і через щирий альтруїзм - "ви просто маєте це послухати цю класну групу" (керуючись своїми уявленнями, що є добре і зле), і просто через інерцію
я мало зацікавлений у ствердженні себе тут, і не вважаю, що комусь можна впарити свої ідеали - це справа часу, власних зусиль, і особливостей голови.
створені мною теми - результат слабкості і випадковості.
той альбом Grifters вище - не те, що планував залити, він гротескний, а от їхній альбом за 1992 - справді неконтрольований. та заливати не буду, бо не хочу зловживати гостинністю господарки теми, Manny Calavera, яка має витримувати такий оффтоп.

о да((( но у меня не с форумом такие проблемы, а с ластфм. Всё никак не решусь свой аккаунт ебнуть. Иногда ловлю себя на мысли, что думаю о том, как воспримут мой топ другие (та ластфм для этой цели и создан практически - особенно эти подписи ластфмские у всех).

Spanish singer/songwriter/guitarist Jairo Zavala formed DePedro in the late 2000s after accumulating an impressive arsenal of solo material during his stints with Calexico, Vacazul, and 3000 Hombres. DePedro, a name chosen by Zavala for its Spanish and Mediterranean timbre, reflects the Madrid native's love of Latin folk, flamenco, Afro-beat, and rock, as well as the pre-WWII blues that filled the homes of his grandparents. Zavala's eponymous debut album under that moniker arrived in 2008 on EMI. -- AMG

DePedro - a name chosen because it sounded "kind of Mediterranean, kind of Spanish" - is the musical project of singer and guitarist Jairo Zavala. His first solo project, DePedro is the culmination of years of writing and playing songs for others, including Spanish star Amparanoia, Spanish instrumental surf phenoms Los Coronas and as the touring guitarist for Calexico, not to mention as frontman and founder of Vacazul and 3000 Hombres, both renowned bands in the respective Spanish rock and blues scenes. As DePedro, he has also appeared at SXSW, the WOMAD festival, at the nationally-broadcast Spanish Music Awards, and at various other festivals across the country.
Zavala grew up in Madrid listening to both the pre-WWII songs his grandparents used to play and the music his Peruvian father brought back from his travels to Latin America and Africa, as well the rock from the 70s and 80s that was popular in Spain. He credits these various influences for helping to shape his own style of guitar playing, one that pulled from blues, folk, flamenco, Afrobeat, Latin, and rock.
Though he enjoyed working with other artists, he was always writing his own music, as well. Some of the songs that ended up on his solo debut, titled DePedro, have their origins in the beginning of the decade. One of them, "Don't Leave Me Now" - originally written for and performed by Amparanoia - was heard by the Arizona band Calexico. They added it to their live set list, and got in touch, asking Zavala to play it with them when they were touring Spain. In 2004 he joined them as a full-time touring guitarist, and when Jairo was getting ready to begin his new album, the band invited him to their studio in Tucson to record. In late 2007, Jairo left for Arizona with the melody and guitar parts for what would become DePedro in hand, purposefully leaving space for the other musicians to fill and shape.
This is Tex-Mex border music meets the Spanish sense of melody, and songs like "La Memoria," which was inspired by a trip to Mexico and the poverty and injustice he saw there, and "Como El Viento," a kind of love song, reflect both equally. On "Don't Leave Me Now," Jairo's voice - warm and expressive, but edged with a scratchiness that makes it as much of a focal point as his guitar playing - draws out the same Spanish melancholy also heard in Amparanoia's version. Yet there's a slyness there, enhanced by Calexico's Joey Burns' upright bass, and it gives the song a sultry, dusty Western feel, the expanse of the land stretching out before them.
The result is a personable, vibrant album that celebrates Zavala's many influences and inspirations while retaining a warmth and a center that engages and entertains. Calexico, a Tucson collective of musicians focused around Joey Burns and John Convertino, forged an eclectic identity through their exploration of Southwestern culture. Composer Ennio Morricone's spaghetti Westerns as well as Portuguese fado, Afro-Peruvian music, and '50s and '60s jazz, country, and surf music all factored into Calexico's music.

Of all the adjectives in the English vocabulary, the word "languid" is sadly inappropriate for the well- paved, tree- lined roads of my immediate surroundings. There are no sweaty denizens lazily fanning themselves as they lay sprawled upon their porch benches. When I want a burrito, I go to the mall and a pimply faced, greasy- haired teenager does his voice- breaking best to make it feel like Mexico is right around the corner. Around here, tequila is drunk by frat boys screaming "Carpe diem, dude!" as their fellow party goers barf up a beery mess.

Good thing, then, that bands like Calexico exist to remind us of words and emotions that may be absent from our immediate landscape. Somewhere inbetween the creepy non- practicing cowboy aesthetic of Palace and the shuffling beats of Latin jazz clubs, Calexico's The Black Light resonates in gloriously cinematic tones. In the hands of less soulful musicians, such combinations would sound more wanky than wonderful. These boys display impeccable taste, however, and you, the listener, are the beneficiary.

There's a remarkable amount of variety on The Black Light. "Fake Fur" takes a Brazilian rhythm and adds a subdued, shuffling bass that makes the head begin to sway. "Where Water Flows" weaves cello, vibes and expertly plugged guitar to conjure the end of yet another lonely night. The album's title track is a wonderfully reverb- drenched piece that captures the menacing tension of a convict on the loose. "Minas De Cobre (For Better Metal)" bursts into lusty mariachi trumpets that would feel at home in any Sergio Leone soundtrack.

There are also some great lyrics on the record. When on "Missing," vocalist Joey Burns sings, "There's a way the fear creaks right in/ There's an angel at your side/ To save you just in the nick of time," you feel the guilt of luck sitting in your stomach.

Virtually everything about this album bears an obscene attention to detail. Even the record's recording, performed in a seemingly spacious warehouse, is worth spewing oodles of idle, meandering prose. It's enough to make this reviewer move down South to partake in a life of crime.

The Black Light крут и разнообразен - кантри, джаз, инди-рок, всё действительно есть и всё органично. Хочется, правда, чуть больше полноценных песен и меньше инструментальных интерлюдий на полторы-две минуты, но это при вдумчивом прослушивании, если просто "расслабиться и получать удовольствие", то оно всё круто

Начал знакомство как всегда с последнего альбома...Трек "Para" очень понравился.Приятная музыка, легко слушается.

Что-то старые любимцы в этом году не оправдывают ожиданий - Earth, Dirty Three, теперь вот Calexico. На два диска как-то очень жидко. Хотя попробую еще, может атмосферой затянет всё-таки.
