Зашли мы с xDIx на страницу маспейса С3 и увидели этих ребят во френдах. Парни играют охуенное скримо и если бы С3 не распались, их сплит стал бы для меня, наверное, одним из самых ожидаемых релизов. Но к сожалению не успели...
По инфе ничего толкового найти не удалось. Группа молодая, но тем не менее уже успела отыграть тур по ВБ и выступить на одной сцене с такими группами как Lavotchkin и An Albatross.
Crocus are an up and coming UK band who take influence from the 90's hardcore/screamo movement. With ethics and values as important to the band members as the sound itself, they are all about honest expression, self-exploration and integrity. Whether you like it or not, this band are making themselves heard...
IIFTM: How did the band get started? Why did you decide on a 3-piece as opposed to having a second guitarist?
Crocus: Greg and Tom used to be in a band called Leaving The Fold and Zac used to be in a band called Iceni Icemi. Both bands ended due to musical and ideological differences. Tom and Greg were starting a new band, and wanted another member who felt the same about music and shared the same ideals. We never really planned on being a three piece, but once we started playing together we felt that there was no need to bring in a fourth member because we're all close friends with the same outlook and opinions, and felt that as we were able to make the music we wanted as a three piece there was no need to comprise what we had.
IIFTM: How would you describe your sound to a new listener?
Crocus: Our sound... it’s always a hard question to answer. Generally it's quite short intense blasts of emotion and frustration thrashed out using guitars and screams. Our lyrics deal with the questioning of ones self and place on this earth, as well as the hardship of both. Simply, its integrity driven Screamo, Emo-Violence, hardcore etc, Call it what you want. We’re not going to tell you because we don’t know or care!
IIFTM: What are your main influences?
Crocus: Our personal influences vary and that’s important because it means that we all bring something different to the rehearsal room, but we do have common grounds obviously. We're influenced by a lot of 90's hardcore and screamo but it’s wider than that, we gather ideas from all sorts of sounds. At the moment (we’re listening to) bands like, Kobra Khan, Give Up The Ghost, Saetia, Dimtrji, Go It Alone, Circle Takes The Square, Bodhisattva, Have Heart and Some Girls.
IIFTM: You are releasing a split tape with Piсata Piсata on We Heart Records, how did that come about?
Crocus: We were offered a show with Piсata Piсata in Yeovil back in July; we turned up and played in this family pub of a venue. It was quite strange but worked. After we played Mikee and Zak of Piсata Piсata offered us a split release on their label, We Heart Records. We'd been fans of bands on that label for a while so it was an amazing opportunity for us and also a great privilege!
IIFTM: What is the Scene like in Penzance? How has CROCUS been received by the local gig-goers there?
Crocus: From what we can gather people aren’t very understanding of the music or how we represent it. We get a lot of, wow that’s "crazy and intense" or "they are the worst band I have ever seen". Its interesting, Cornish shows, for us are more fun than anything else because we get to play alongside good friends. But we never play in front of an enthusiastic crowd. There are mainly indistinguishable metal bands in Cornwall and it seems that no ones willing to listen to something with real heart!
IIFTM: What UK bands do you like/admire/are down with at the moment?
Crocus: We played with Attack!Vipers! in Norwich a while ago, no one turned up but it didn't matter, we all just had a good time regardless, and they were a really nice bunch of guys. Maths played as well, who are a band we really like and respect, so it turned out to be a good night. And of course; The Lioness boys, they’re very good friends of ours. Incredible guys that are destined for great things! Anyone that has a profound passion for their music and cause is a friend of ours.
IIFTM: What are the plans for CROCUS in the immediate future and beyond?
Crocus: Well we're currently writing some news songs at the moment because we have a little while off before more gigs, so we taking advantage of it. We're also hopefully putting out another split with Splinter Splinter Swallow in the near future. Should be recording for the split with Piсata Piсata very soon, then a tour with those guys after it’s been released! Things are pretty exciting for us right now and we're terribly privileged to be given these opportunities.
IIFTM: Anything else to add?
Crocus: Just a big thanks to Mikee and Zak from we heart, all the promoters and bands we've had the pleasure of playing with especially Dimtrji an Austrian band that blew us away. One of the best bands we've played with.
