Grinder: Brutal hails, Nico! I am administrator of russian forum about brutal music (был когда-то) and I
would like to interview.
Nico: Hello!
Thanks much for this interview, you'll find the answers to your questions
right here, with two new songs you can put on your forum if you like, and
photographs as well.
I just hope this won't be too many files...
Grinder: What about your new album? When we can hear it?
Nico: First of all thanks a lot for asking ! The new one is on the way, not yet
recorded but almost fully composed, so we'll head for a studio as soon as
possible (LB LAB Studio; with Steph Buriez of french band Loudblast, as
Nasum's SoundLab studio is closed for now). This means that we'd be able to
finish the whole job for september, at least that's what we would like to
do.
So if you keep in touch, and if we can finish in time, maybe you'll listen
to a new album around october... Let's say it'll be done.
Grinder: I liked your last
album "Human Parade". Is the new album so brutal and intense too?
Nico: Well, it's not really our job to answer this question, but our aim is still
to do as intense as we ever did. I don't wanna say we'll do faster and more
brutal than what we did yet, that's the kind of common answer I hate, but
"Human Parade" is kinda old now and doesn't reflect what we do right now. We're
searching for the best way to put an energic impulse to each and every part
of our music. The result is quite an efficient blasting noise, if you
consider the grinding mosh when we perform them on stage. Anyway, we don't
want or plan to slow down, and everytime we work on a new song, the only
thing we look after is epileptic blasting power and neverending energy.
I bet this answers in a way, but the best is to listen by yourself. Here are
MP3s of titles we recorded while rehearsing, not a perfect sound but you'll
understand what I mean when you'll listen to it.
Put it on your forum is this is possible, no problem.
Grinder: Are you going to make a movieclip?
Nico: We never did any... So nothing is planned as for now, but we thought about a
video track, which would be a live one, not a movieclip. Anyway we'd like to
do a complete video, as Blockheads is a live band before anything. (At this
time, we're thinking to include live video on next album). We don't play
grind-core to get into a studio and play in front of a wall, the aim is to
get on stage, blast and grind and infuse madness to the people there. That's
the reason why we continue, nothing to do with selling albums or anything.
But I drifted away, so to answer directly, nothing as a movieclip as for
now, but who knows ?
Grinder: When are you going to come to Israel? (I live in Israel at this time).
Nico: Eh... well, this sounds cool, let's say next summer ???
Seriously, we'd love to get on the road, travel and play everywhere, but
this kind of music doesn't sell enough for us to live without a job. So we're
all working asides from the band, which makes any long trip difficult. What's
more, costs would make this trip hard to plan.
We'd love to make it though, so if a proposal is made, let's consider it.
Same goes for any place by the way...
Grinder: In what style you play? Grind/powerviolence or anything else?
Nico: Grind-core is what we call it, nothing more, just plain and blasting
grind-core. Straight out of band as Napalm Death or Brutal Truth, but we got
away from their influence a long time ago now. Blockheads is there since
1992 and will go on. We'll not reject the basics, the noises we listened to
and that pushed us towards this kind of music, and we still enjoy them much,
but the band found a real identity while keeping the basics of grind-core
alive. That's what we like, that's the way we play it, fast, brutal,
energic, short.
Grinder: What you think about religion and in general christianity?
Nico: Nothing good in a global way about any movement that thinks and decides for
people. This has nothing to do with christianity or any particular religion,
we just thing we all have a brain to decide what's good and what's wrong for
ourselves and our relatives. So we keep away from any kind of mind luring
precept, or try to anyway. Dogma, religion, social pressures, many things
are there to dictate your will and erase freedom of thought.
Grinder: And what you think about nazi, fasci ets?
Nico: The past left them too much oportunities, and we saw the results. We shall
not allow this to happen again or even these ideas to perdure.
Don't tolerate intolerance.
Grinder: Thanx a lot, grind on!!!
Nico: Thanks much and hello to all of the russian extreme blasting fans !
